Livingstone Shire Council engaged Durack Civil to reconstruct and widen 24 km of Stanage Bay Road (sections 2 and 3) to improve road safety and all weather access.
Scope:
The scope involved reshaping and widening the existing subgrade formation, producing, carting and placing over 200,000 t of road base to form the new sub-base and base layers - then a 2 coat seal. Various drainage structures were also upgraded and widened as part of the works.
Challenges:
The wet year 2022 required Durack to program the works in a non-traditional way where the gravel was to be carted over already completed work sections to enable safe all weather truck access at all times.
